Heritage and Routes is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under applicable data-protection law including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who we are
Heritage and Routes is a tourism operator registered in Benin, headquartered in Cotonou. Our founder Oluwafemi Kochoni is the data controller. Contact: contact@heritageandroutes.com.
What we collect
When you contact us, request a programme, or book a journey, we collect: name, email address, country of origin, passport details (for visa coordination), travel dates and preferences, dietary or medical requirements you choose to share, and payment information. We do not collect data beyond what is necessary to operate your journey.
How we use it
Your data is used exclusively to (a) respond to your enquiries, (b) prepare and operate your journey, (c) coordinate with hotels, drivers, scholars, and traditional authorities as required, (d) send you pre-trip and post-trip communications, and (e) comply with our legal and tax obligations.
Who we share with
We share only the minimum data necessary with our ground partners (hotels, drivers, traditional councils where access protocols require it). We never sell or rent your data to third parties. We do not use your data for marketing without your explicit consent.
Where we store data
Your data is stored on secure servers within the European Economic Area or in Benin. We keep your data for the duration of our commercial relationship plus the period required by Beninese tax law (typically 10 years for financial records).
Your rights
Under GDPR (if you are in the EU) and equivalent legislation elsewhere, you have the right to: access the data we hold on you, correct it, request deletion (subject to legal retention), restrict processing, request portability, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
